Local home-ownership building co-operatives
Organised to provide group schemes of affordable dwellings for purchase by members, who must have the necessary individual financial capacity to engage in such transactions with adequate personal savings and access to mortgage loans.
The formation of this type of co-operative requires a suitable building site and the willingness of eligible members to work together towards solving their needs as house-purchasers.
District/area co-operative housing societies
Organised to provide and manage networks of local rental and ownership housing developments in city districts or county/regional areas.
Each co-operative housing society provides the ongoing management, caretaking, repair and maintenance for the co-operative housing estates and apartment buildings in its district or area of operation.
The member/residents or users of the housing services in each local development are represented on the management committee or board of directors, which conducts the business affairs and monitors the service performance required for the upkeep of the estates or apartment buildings.

Apartment building owners’ management co-operatives
May be organised to undertake the management and upkeep of apartment buildings or other compact housing developments with shared services, structures and common areas, jointly owned and funded by the leasehold purchasers as the member/residents.
