New Co-operative Rental Apartments at Loughlinstown, Dun Laoghaire

(02 Mar 2009)

LOUGHLINSTOWN DRIVE, DUN LAOGHAIRE

Various Pictures 072Construction of 49 co-operative social rented apartments is advancing at Riverside, Loughlinstown Drive, off Wyatville Road. The €10.7 million contract is due to be completed later in 2009.

The site was allocated by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for this co-operative social rented apartment building. Funding support is being provided by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Housing Finance Agency, under the terms of the Capital Loan and Subsidy Scheme.

The project has been designed to provide good quality apartments for single persons and smaller families, who are eligible social housing waiting list applicants, willing to accept the responsibilities of co-operative membership as a solution to their housing needs.

All suitable social housing waiting list applicants nominated in due course by the County Council will be required to participate in an advance co-operative information and familiarisation programme. This is conducted at the appropriate construction completion stage by NABCo with the South County Co-operative Housing Society.

There are already two local co-operative rental housing developments in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area, at Drinagh, Ballyogan and at Rockfield, Dundrum.

This adds to the tradition of home-ownership co-operative housing provision in the County, on sites previously provided by the local authority.
