New Co-operative Housing at Tyrrelstown Park - Fingal

(02 Mar 2009)

TYRRELSTOWN PARK, MULHUDDART, FINGAL

DSCN2092A €48.76 million construction contract for a new mixed tenure co-operative housing development comprising 233 houses and apartments is proceeding on a site at Tyrrelstown Park, off Tyrrelstown Road, Mulhuddart, provided by Fingal County Council. The planning/design, financing and contract arrangements were made by the National Association of Building Co-operatives (NABCo).

The mixed tenure housing development comprises

  • co-operative social rented houses and apartments
  • affordable ownership purchase houses
  • co-operative equity-sharing ownership apartments

A communal welfare facility, with a co-operative pre-school child care service, will also be provided.

The development also includes the provision of 17 apartments at Tyrrelstown Court for the HAIL voluntary housing association.

Capital funding for the rental housing is being provided by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Housing Finance Agency, under the terms of the Capital Loan and Subsidy Scheme.

The co-operative housing will be managed by the Fingal Co-operative Housing Society, affiliated to the National Association of Building Co-operatives (NABCo). The co-operative member/residents will be represented on the Society’s management board.

The new housing development is the result of a productive partnership between NABCo and Fingal County Council, aimed at providing new accommodation options for social housing waiting list applicants and eligible affordable house purchasers with modest incomes.

The construction contract is expected to be completed in 2011, and will provide significant employment for building workers and suppliers.

The project follows five previous co-operative rental housing developments carried out with the support of Fingal County Council in Balbriggan, Swords and Parslickstown, currently managed by the Fingal Co-operative Housing Society and the Newtown Co-operative Housing Society, affiliated to NABCo.
